The Department of Translation and Foreign Languages belongs to the Faculty of Metallurgical Processes and Chemical Technologies of NMetAU. The department provides training for bachelors in the speciality 035.041 "Philology (Germanic languages and literature (translation inclusive), first - English, second - German)" of the field of knowledge 03 "Humanities", as well as training in foreign languages (English) for students enrolled in programs of the first (bachelor's), second (master's) and third (PhD) levels of higher education of all specialities of full-time and part-time education.

Leading teachers of the department also provide targeted language training in foreign languages within the framework of international projects of the Academy, in academic and scientific cooperation with partner universities of the Academy.

The department has 8 teachers who are actively engaged in research work, participate in international programs, national and international scientific conferences, publish educational and scientific literature, and publish their works in leading national and foreign publications.

Since 2004, after the successful licensing of the speciality "Translation", the department has been functioning as a graduate school. The department trains bachelors of philology with in-depth knowledge of scientific and technical translation, which is practically improved during internships at leading enterprises of the city, the regional state administration and various organizations.

Upon completion of the bachelor's degree, most students enter the institute's master's program in Intellectual Property, Project Management, and Management, which significantly expands their opportunities for further employment and professional development. Studying under the Bologna system also gives them the opportunity to continue their studies at European universities.

Students majoring in Philology take an active part in the scientific work of the department, in competitions, and national and international scientific conferences. Every year, the academy hosts the Young Academy Scientific and Practical Student Conference, which includes the Translation and Foreign Languages sections.

The department is headed by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor V. Prutchykova. The Department currently has the following members: Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor H.M. Pronina, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor O.V. Abramova, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor N.F. Sharkova, Senior Lecturer L.M. Piddubna, senior lecturer. Hromova O.P., senior lecturer Davydova T.A., Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Kyrpyta T.V. 

The department is located in rooms 422, 423, and 424 of the main building of the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine (4th floor).
