Project objectivesWider objective is to reinforce the role of HEIs in assisting industrial trans-formation in Georgia and Ukraine under Industry 4.0 paradigm.

Target groups: universities, industry.

Specific project objectives:
- to reinforce capacities in HEIs (human resource, material base, institutional units) in response to emerging Industry 4.0 paradigm;
- to reinforce collaboration of HEIs with industry by delivery tailored courses and consultancy services for companies (large and SME) towards exploring the opportunities of new Industrial Revolution through reconfiguration of business models;
- to set new taught module "Industry 4.0 Business Management" for the MSc students for enhancing graduates' employability under emerging market conditions;
- to develop recommendations for updating the Engineering curriculum towards competencies required for operating the factories of the future.

Project activities:
- study of teaching methodologies and curriculum of EU HEIs in relation to Industry 4.0;
- development of methodology concept and content of curriculum;
- study of capacity building practices for collaboration with industry;
- development of Case Studies;
- development of short courses for industry;
- development of Industry 4.0 Business Management module for Master students;
- development of recommendations to update Engineering curriculum;
- setting Virtual Factory Learning Labs;
- training of the staff for Virtual Factory Learning Labs;
- development of content and capacity for consultancy services;
- implementation of internal and external quality control measures;
- dissemination of project activities and results on national and international levels;
- piloting and adjustment of the project results, development of sustainability measures;
- coordination and operational management of the project.

Expected results:

  1. Human resource developed in Georgian and Ukrainian HEIs in response to emerging Industry 4.0 paradigm;
  2. Concept for methodology and content of curriculum in response to Industry 4.0 (Higher Education 4.0 Concept);
  3. Case Studies representing the EU HEIs experience and practices to wider audience;
  4. Recommendations for updating Engineering curriculum delivering the insights on the new transdisciplinary competencies required for operating the factories of the future and how this can be addressed in higher engineering education;
  5. Taught module "Industry 4.0 Business Management" (5 ECTS credits) developed and embodied into existing Master programs;
  6. Short courses for upgrading industrial staff (3 ECTS) offered by Georgian and Ukrainian HEI;
  7. Virtual Factory Learning Labs set in each Georgian and Ukrainian HEI and complemented with their international network as a focal point of collaboration in the Industry 4.0 context;
  8. Permanent colloquium for retraining of teaching staff regularly held at each HEI;
  9. Consultancy services for the industrial companies available at each Virtual Factory Learning Lab;
  10. Stakeholders’ round tables led by the Virtual Factory Learning Labs and integrated into HEIs practice;
  11. Business Sustainability Plans for Virtual Factory Learning Lab at each HEI;
  12. Project’s website, paper-based and on-line publications disseminating the best practices gained and promoting the project to other HEIs and industry in Georgia and Ukraine.

Implementation of Education Quality Assurance system via cooperation of University-Business-Government in HEIs

Project objectivesWider objective is to improve education quality assurance systems through development of efficient internal quality standards leading to better employability of students in Partner Countries Universities. The internal QA system will be based on analysis of needs and capacities in Kazakh and Ukrainian HEIs, experiences and best practices from the successful QA action line of the Bologna Process.

Target groups: students, administrative and academic staff, QA specialists, business representatives, public authorities, associated partners.

Specific project objectives:
- to establish 6 quality assurance cells as bodies that bring quality assurance activities together and support development of quality culture embraced by all;
- to provide internal quality assurance guidelines and procedures aiming to improve educational programmes and other activities;
- to build capacity of teaching and non-teaching staff involved in quality assurance cycle;
- to modernize internal information systems of quality evaluation and to improve university QA infrastructure;
- to develop quality assurance experts network via cooperation of universities-business-State open for new members.

Project activities:
- promote the creation of quality culture at various levels through motivation, trust, responsibility of students, institutional leadership, individual staff members;
- elaborate proposals for the design of programs for BSc and MSc with the involvement of all stakeholders;
- develop technologies of assessment quality of BSc & MSc programs; designed program should meet the objectives including learning outcomes;
- conduct training for the QA specialist & academic staff;
- improve affiliate network university-business-State through collaboration with the EU universities;
- enhance internal university information systems of quality evaluation;
- develop a corporate QA infrastructure based on ICT.

Expected results:

  1. Created QA units, developed set of standards, guidelines for internal quality assurance in higher education;
  2. Improved quality of activities (research, education, governance) on the basis of the study of procedures and processes of EU universities;
  3. Improved quality culture among students, academic staff, management and administration of the University;
  4. Developed affiliate network university-business-State through cooperation of QA agencies, professors, researchers, students with EU universities;
  5. Enhanced internal university information systems of quality evaluation and corporate QA infrastructure;
  6. Piloted internal QA policy, guidelines & procedures will serve as a basis for QA national standards by PC QA agencies.

Boosting the knowledge triangle by establishing Innovation Offices
in Ukrainian higher education institutions

The main objective of the project is implementation of the “knowledge triangle” (education ↔ research ↔ innovations) in the practice of Ukrainian higher education institutions. “Knowledge triangle” means that education must be closely linked with the research activities of HEI and practical experience of enterprises, research should apply practical knowledge of industrial sector which, in turn, must have the possibility to impact the content of education and directions of research.

To create vital environment for the effective implementation of “knowledge triangle” the project foresees:

  1. Acquaintance with the European experience in implementation of “knowledge triangle” in the HEI and identifying of the valuables that could be produced due to the efficient use of the intellectual property of university.
  2. Establishing of the “Innovation Office” in the NMAU.

European partners in the project are represented by the University of Alicante (Spain – coordinator of the project), University of Bologna (Italy), Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) and non-academic partner World University Service Austrian Committee (Austria).

The objective of the project is the reform of study programmes for Metallurgy M.Sc. and PhD students through introducing of new subjects, delivering of the modern teaching technologies and improving of teachers` skills and qualification. This project is performed in order bring the study of Ukrainian students in line with European principles and educational standards stated in the Bologna Declaration. The objective of the project is the creation of the facilities for career and employability support which will ensure the cooperation with potential employers, effective preparation of students for employment, establishing and supporting of the contacts with alumni.
