The tragic death of student curtain under Kruty has become a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice in the struggle for an independent Ukraine. Already in March 1918, after the signing of the Brest Peace, the German occupation of Ukraine and the return of the Government of the Ukrainian People's Republic to Kiev, by decision of the Central Rada on March 19, 1918, it was decided to reburst the fallen students at Askold's Tomb in Kiev. The body of 28 [19] student soldiers was transported to a place where a public mourning and burial took place. The ceremony was attended by Mykhaylo Hrushevsky, who called this act of the Kyiv youth heroic.
