Information

Hundreds of Ukrainians came to the village of Mlyny (Poland, Podkarpackie voivodeship) to honor the memory of the author of the music of the Ukrainian anthem of Mikhail Verbitsky. On the grave to Verbitsky the Ukrainians came with state symbols. People sang the anthem of Ukraine, and prayers were heard.

Representatives of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship also took part in the event. M. Verbitsky was born in the village of Yavirnik-Russian near Peremyshl (now Poland) on March 4, 1815. In Mlynyakh, he was rector since 1856. The wooden church has survived to this day, but already belongs to the Roman Catholic Church. Twice a year the temple is opened especially for Ukrainians who come to bow to the grave of M. Verbitsky.

It was in Peremyshl that for the first time Mikhail Verbitsky himself sang the song "Shche did not die of Ukraine and glory, no will" in 1863 at the Theological Seminary. According to one version, M. Verbitsky read a patriotic poem by Pavel Chubinsky in the magazine. The priest left a great creative legacy - about 40 church comas, romances, music for theatrical performances, secular songs.
