Oleksandr G. Velychko, The Corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of engineering sciences, professor, honoree of the State Premium of Ukraine in the field of science and engineering, member of the Higher School Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of Academy of Engineering Sciences of Ukraine, honoured worker of national education of Ukraine, rector of National Metallurgical academy of Ukraine.

In 1974,  graduated from Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute, gained qualification of metallurgical engineer.

Principle branches of scientific and pedagogic activities: researches on the fundamentals of steel-making in basic oxygen furnaces, development of practical recommendations on their improvement; introduction of the latest methodologies into the educational process management by informational technologies application. Published more than 500 scientific papers, including 40 inventions, 6 coursebooks (Vnepechnaya Obrabotka Stali [Secondary Metallurgy of Steel], Beskoksovaya metallurgiya zheleza [Coke-Free Metallurgy of Iron], Staleplavil'noe proizvodstvo [Steel-Making], etc.), 3 monographs  (Vysokonadezhnoe metallurgicheskoe oborudovanie v resursosberegayushchikh tekhnologiyakh [High Performance Metallurgical Equipment in the Sphere of Resource-Saving Technologies], etc.). 5 PhD dissertations have been successfully defended under his scientific supervision. Member of the State accreditation committee of Ministry of education and science of Ukraine and member of Collegium on governmental expertise for the educational institutions. Member of section "Metallurgy" of the committee under the State premiums in the field of science and engineering.
