History of the Physics Department

 

The department was found in 1930. Then the metallurgical faculty of Yekaterinoslav Mining Institute was transformed into independent higher educational establishment (DMetI). Professor B.N.Finkelstein (DSc)  worked as the first head of the department of physics of DMetI until1932. In1932  Radchenko I.V. became the next head of the department and later was awarded PhD degree (1937) Associate Professor  (1939),  Professor (1958). He headed the scientific researches in the sphere of melt and solution  structure and properties. In 1941  the Metallurgical Institute was evacuated toMagnitogorsk. After the war scientific laboratories and lecture rooms of the department were restored. The  department was still headed by Radchenko I.V. Also here worked such scientists as Levashevich M.A. (the head of the department of physics in DHTI afterwards), Lapkin B.D, Shcherban’ I.E. (senior teacher), Shestakovskiy F.K.(assistant) and Iyakimov A.V.(the head of the laboratories). In 1950-60s the staff of the department was joined by the graduates ofDnipropetrovskUniversity. They are Shapovalov I.M, Lisovitskaya M.K, Gal’pern V.V, Ponyatenko N.A, Tverdohlebova L.S, Litvinenko I.V, Kobus L.F, andMoscowUniversitygraduate Ilinskaya N.S. Associate Professor  Zdorovets A.S, Krishtal U.A. and senior teacher Bibik A.P. came to the department from other institutes  of Dnipropetrovsk. From 1956 until now the department is located in the modern premises of the institute. The study labs were enlarged and modernized. in 1060-70s the staff of the department was joined by the new generation of  scientists, among them are Ryss A.I, Kordyk S.L, Kucherenko E.S, Galushko I.M, Pogorely V.I, Hlynzev V.P, Tutyk V.A, Miroshnichenko G.I, Kolesov I.S. In 1972 Litvinenko V.I. took the position of the head of the department because of the retirement of Radchenko V.I.  The educational process and education and methodic work continued to be. From 1968 till 1985 the department was the major one in Dnipropetrovsk region. Zyk A.P. (the head of the lab) and senior technician Ananyina  M.I. made a great contribution to the educational process. From 1982 till 1984 Tutyk V.A. headed the department. From 1984 up to the present Kozlov V.M. is in charge. The scientific and research work has been stimulated. A great part in the accomplishing of the economic agreement and State budget work  was laid upon Prof Kozlov V.M, Kucherenko E.S (in 1993 got DSc degree,  in 1995 Prof), Kolesov I.S, Tutyk V.A,  Galushko I.M, Hlynzev V.P, Gal’pern V.V, senior teachers Pozdeeva T.I, Timoshenko V.N, leading scientist Girin O.B (DSc degree in 1990), senior scientist Klenina S.Y, аспіранті Lybchik O.I, Korobova I.V.(PhD degree in early 90s). in 1980-90s the department was joined by new scientists such as Associate Professor  Bulany P.F, Kuznetsov E.V, senior teachers Pozdeeva T.I, Titarenko G.A, Shchurova N.I, Kalenichenko V.V, Timoshenko V.N, assistants Kovtun V.V, Limina I.B.  Associate Professor  Denisenko A.I has been working here from 2004. The head of the laboratory Yankelevich M.A. has been working here for 20 years and making contribution to the technical support of educational process and scientific research. Nowadays the department is working over credit-module system.
