Mykola Kh. Isajenko (1902 – 1986)
Took the position of the rector from 1937 to 1970. Was a professor. Organized the work in the Institute during the period of Great Patriotic War (World War II) and the post-war society. During the years of being in charge, encouraged the establishment of the well known scientific and pedagogical schools of blast furnace operators, steel-makers and rolling process operators as well as assisted in the development of the Institute resources. Was awarded two Orders named after Lenin, two Orders of Honorability and Red Star Order.

Georgiy G. Jefimenko (1917 – 2012)
Was a rector from 1970 to 1973, a corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences (the second academic degree after PhD degree), Laureate of the State Award of Ukraine, Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Soviet Ukrainian Republic (1973-1984). Scientist in the sphere of blast furnace operation, who created the scientific school of burden materials preparation for the metallurgical technology. Was awarded two orders of the Great Patriotic War (World War II), order of Red Star and order of the October Revolution.

Juriy M. Taran-Zhovnir (1917 – 2012)
Was a rector from 1974 to 2001, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences (the second academic degree after PhD degree), professor, Laureate of USSR Minister’s Council Award and the State Award of Ukraine. Is an outstanding scientist in the sphere of material physics. Assisted in the development of the Institute resources. Was awarded two orders of Red Star, order of the October Revolution, Order “For Merits” of the Third Rank, the Fifth Rank Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise.

Oleksandr G. Velichko
Current rector. Took the position of rector in 2001. A corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences (the second academic degree after PhD degree), professor, Honorable worker of National Education of Ukraine, Laureate of National Award of Ukraine for the Sphere of Science and Technology. In this role continue the development of Academy resources. Outstanding scientist in the sphere of fundamental bases of steel-making. Awarded Order “For Merits” of I, II and III ranks.
