History of the department and laboratory
History of the department and laboratory.
The first graduation experts of non-ferrous metals took place at the department of electrometallurgy in DMetI 1930. During the Great Patriotic War, set of major has been discontinued and resumed in 1963. But in 1967 major was transferred to Zaporozhye Faculty DMetI (now Zaporizhia State Engineering Academy). Experts of non-ferrous metals have always training in NMetAU since 1996. From the department electrometallurgy has been allocated a separate Department of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy created on the basis of PLNMP at the end of1999.
PLNMP created in November 1966 as Problem laboratory of ferroalloys to ensured the scientific construction and commissioning of the Nikopol ferroalloy plant. Due the expansion of research and to an increasing the proportion of work on the theory and practice of production steels and alloys for special purposes it was renamed the Problem Laboratory of new metallurgical processes in 1976 resolution of SCST of the USSR. It first Scientific Leader was one of the organizers of the domestic ferroalloy industry, the head of electrometallurgy professor, Dr. Sci. Tech., Honored Scientist of Ukraine - Khitrik S.I. During the most intense activity (up to mid-90's) collective PLNMP was including to 150 researchers and support staff, including part-time from among the teachers of the Department electrometallurgy. Annually performed no less 15-20 basic and applied research that directly involved to 30-35 students from different specialties mainly electrometallurgy. It was the basis for the organization at the end of 1999 based PLMNP department of metallurgy of nonferrous metals, teaching staff is made up of teachers in the Department electrometallurgy and leading researchers PLNMP.
